Back To School

As most of you already know about me (if you've ever visited my blog before), I'm a school teacher.  The school year has already started here, and I'm already excited for Christmas break!  LOL  - My little niece just started Kindergarten and I thought I would send her a card to encourage her, and to let her know that I'm SO proud of her.  She's a lucky little girl because we have several teachers in our family, so she will always have people who can help her as she gets older, and her subjects in school get harder.  I had some time Saturday morning to make a couple of cards.  This is the one I'm sending to my niece, Hannah Lynn.
The concept for this card came from a talented crafter named Dawn Cosgrove.  She had a similar card to this published in the September, 2012 issue of CARDS Magazine.  I really love that magazine, and I'd have to say it's my favorite of all magazines for card ideas.  I don't know Dawn personally, but if she was ever to see this card I hope she would be pleased with my take on her published card.  She really inspired me, and I happened to have most of the supplies she had used.  Thanks for the idea, Dawn!

These are the challenges I found where I can share my Back-To-School card this week:

Creative Card Crew Challenge Blog - CHALLENGE #69 - CHALKBOARD - I used chalkboard patterned paper that says things like "I Will Not Chase Girls", and "I Will Not Run in the Halls", etc.  I also inked the edges of the chalkboard paper with white chalk ink to make it look real

My Craft Spot By Kimberly - CHALLENGE #150 - BACK TO SCHOOL

As You Like It Challenge Blog - YOUR FAVOURITE SEASON AND WHY YOU LOVE IT - My favorite season (as I explained in my first entry) is Autumn  and Back-to-School season because the weather is cool, I get to attend weekend football games at the local high school, and it's just so beautiful with all the colors of changing leaves falling from the trees

Cool, Crisp Autumn

Even though I'm back to work for the school year, I still love this time of year.  The leaves are starting to turn bright reds, oranges and yellows.  The air is cool and crisp, and the smell of leaves is in the air.  I enjoy this time of year so much; attending high school football games, bon fires, and just enjoying the outdoors on long walks in the evenings.
I made this little tag by combining a few different challenges.  I wanted to use the chalkboard technique as well as adding a little "witch" and I found this kitty witch (isn't he cute?).  I found a few challenges I can enter with this project.

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenges - WITCH KRAFTY - My little kitty witch is an acrylic stamp from my stash.

Creative Card Crew Challenges - CHALLENGE #69 CHALKBOARD - I used the chalkboard technique on this tag by stamping my sentiment in white chalk ink and then inking the edges

As You Like It Challenges - YOUR FAVORITE SEASON & TELL US WHY - My favorite season in Fall/Autumn (as explained above) is my favorite time of the year because of the beautiful changing leaves and the cool air before Winter arrives

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenges - ANYTHING GOES - I have never won this challenge, but I sure would LOVE to go on a shopping spree in this amazing store

DRS Designs Challenges - CHALLENGE #137 - IT GIVES ME THE CREEPS - This isn't too terribly creepy, but it is a Halloween themed card with my scary little "Kitty Witch"

V's Sweet Ideas Challenge #26 - ANYTHING GOES

Thanks for visiting my blog, and feel free to leave a comment or even become a blog follower.  I really appreciate it.

Back to the 60's

When I saw this challenge over at Papertrey Ink, I knew I had to give it a try.  It's probably not the "cutest" card I've ever made, but as they say - if it's not a little difficult, then it's not truly a "challenge".  So with that said, this is my take on the challenge:
Papertrey Ink - Explore the 1960's With Erin Lincoln - I sure gave it a try!

Thanks for looking,

Back To School

As an English Teacher, Summer is always my favorite time of year.  And yet it seems to pass by so quickly every year.  But I can't complain because my Summer was amazing, and I'm incredibly grateful to have a good job.  I've been working on getting my classroom ready, and it's really looking good.  It's ready....but am I?  LOL - I know that my crafting will really take a back seat, but I wanted to make a Back-To-School project for a co-worker of mine who is really having a rough time.  She went through a lot this Summer, so I made this for her and will give her a Starbucks card inside the library pocket so she can "get her fix" on the way to school.
I bought her a book of encouraging poems and quotes, and I stuck this library pocket on the inside along with the gift card.  I hope she likes it.  I used some colors on this project from an inspiration photo I found at one of my favorite challenge blogs.  I'm going to share it in some challenges:

Make It Sparkle

Sparkly things are always fun.  I saw a couple of challenges this week that called for something "sparkly", so I got busy making a card from scraps I found in my craft room.  I combined a kraft card and kraft paper with some sparkly Bo Bunny papers I've been meaning to use for a long time now.  My photography skills aren't the greatest, but these pattern papers are glittery, and they really do sparkle.
I'm going to give this card to my sister and brother-in-law for their anniversary, and I hope they like it.  I used a border punch on the edges and added a sparkly gem, rick rack at the top, and some buttons.  It's nothing spectacular, but I think it turned out OK.  I'd like to hear your opinion of it (but please be gentle...LOL)!

Dictionary Pages

Crafting is so much fun, and there are so many things around your house that can be used for crafting.  Who would have ever guessed I would use Dictionary Pages on a card?  But I did.  I like how it turned out, and it was really easy too.
This card uses  black chalkboard base, cream cardstock, dictionary pages, some seam binding, and a Jenni Bowlin flair button in the center of my flower, which was also cut from dictionary pages using my scalloped scissors.  Easy!

I'm linking my card in some challenges that I found where they fit the challenge themes:
